Re: Greetings from the foothills of Colorado!
You are welcome. Rock hunting is so much fun and can be very rewarding. I am mainly using scintillator based detectors for that purpose because they are much more sensitive and react quicker than Geiger counters. Here are some recent finds: IMG_20230917_191616.jpg A word of caution: uranium glimmer ...

Re: Neher-White Cold War era dose rate meter
The unit actually has two calibration potentiometers, I'll post a picture tomorrow. Edit: here it is IMG_20231118_112547.jpg I do not have a sufficiently active check source at home and I did not want to remove the lead around the chamber so it's correct function is not verified. Neher-White Cold War era dose rate meter
Dear all, I wanted to share some information about a rather exotic (at least I think so) detector. When I recently reorganized stuff and equipment in my basement, I came across this handy little unit. IMG_20231026_080225.jpg It is an IM-179/U gamma dose rate meter, manufactured by Heat Pipe Corp. of...

Detector for rock hunting
Here is a little tool I built recently, based on Matthias' Mini SiPM Driver Board, using a 1" dia x 1" CsI(Tl) coupled to a single MICROFC-60035 SiPM: https://www.gammaspectacular.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1089 When looking for radioactive rocks in the wild, I always found it ann...

Re: Portable spectrometer / survey meter
I just finished a downsized version, utilizing a 1" dia x 1" NaI(Tl) scintillator and a 2x2 SiPM matrix.
