Silicone for HV
Hi, Does anyone know if regular Dow 795 Conducts electricity, I took apart a Xray Scintilator, to replace the Connector to a BNC, but the previous connector was Caulked in with silicone to block light, can anyone share what type of silicone they've used or, if regular silicone is good enough for the...

Re: Gold 198 and Radiacode 101
Hi Mike, I think once you have a good lead shield around the foil and detector you will have a lot better chance of seeing the 411kev gammas, since 2000 n/s is quite low you are going to have to remove most of the background radiation to see it.

Re: Large Spike During Background
Thanks Steven, https://i.imgur.com/q2F98rh.png Now that I can see the energies of the unknown rays, It seems they are all low energy X-rays, sub 10kev, From what I know either it would have to have been a very concentrated x-ray source to punch through my whole house, and ~4" of Lead, at such a...

Large Spike During Background
Hello Everyone, Whilst I was taking a 24 hour background sample in my new lead castle as I just picked up 200 more pounds of lead giving me an almost complete 3.5" shielding around my detector on all sides, at ~5:30AM EST my standard rate of 1.5-2.0 Counts Per Second, Spike for about 500ms, now...

Re: Hello from Massachusetts
After some searching, I found a post on here of Uranium Glass, which seems to have, for some reason or the other, the Th234 peaks a lot closer in intensity, compared to a UO2 sample or depleted uranium, I will shine a blacklight on it once I get out of work To see if there is any Fluorescence. maybe...

Re: Hello from Massachusetts
Okay I've, rerun the spectrum, and Adjusted my Volume so that K40 is around 60 Arb units, I still have the spike behind my K40 so it doesn't seem to have been overshoot, It must be something in my lead shielding, besides that, I've got 4 prominent peaks at ~35kev ~71kev ~105kev and ~198kev, this Sca...

Re: Hello from Massachusetts
I have Fixed my Pulse width, it was spanning from 50% to 90% of the Audio input Panel During pulse shape acquisition, now it is closer to 50%-70% on the x axis and lowered the volume so that my arbitrary units should get me up to 2.4mev on PRA, I will be Re running a Scan tonight and will post an up...

Re: Hello from Massachusetts
Thanks!, I'm going to try and give my full backstory here so about 7 months ago I won an auction on a ton of "Junk" from a place called Stewart Radiance Labs here in Massachusetts, They did a lot of Optics work with MWIR LWIR, for the local airforce base. a lot of the stuff I got is very o...

Re: Scuba soft lead for shielding?
You can absolutely use soft lead for Shielding as far as I can Tell, Ive purchased around 400 lbs from my local scrap yard for $1/lb in the form of Lead Roof Flashing, and have cast it into blocks , and I've seen about a 98% reduction in background for anything lower than 300kev and then it tapers t...
