Did anyone ever get a copy of this download? I have a dscispec 14 pin base, and FLIR, who bought them, won't support the device anymore.
Thanks in advance,
Jim Kovalchick

Do you keep your equipment warmed up?
Question; how long does your equipment take to stabilize as measured by energy calibration? I am especially curious about NIM setups.
Does anyone just leave their NIM bins on all the time?
Thanks

Re: What's this polluting my background
Because of Rob's questions, I double checked my energy calibration and found it way off. I re-performed the cal and found a second order polynomial with a good fit. My peak turned out to be cesium contamination. I tore down the shield and cleaned it successfully.

Re: What's this polluting my background
Rob, 2" NaI. 512 channels. Calibrated with Eu 152, radium, and Cs 137. Third order polynomial with decent fit across the range in the spectrum. By decent, I mean less than 5 keV. After I posted, I started investigating my shield. Outside my lead bricks, I stacked some steel plates. There are so...

What's this polluting my background
Im trying to figure our what this peak in my background is? Around 400 keV. I have my detector surrounded by a pile of lead bricks. Maybe one is contaminated. Any ideas?

Re: Fuel pellet
Here is a comparison that shows how the peak would look with more U 235 in it. The red is the DU pellet.

Re: Fuel pellet
Lars,
Most are simulated. I hope you get lucky with yours. I have another pellet in a block from the opening of plant Hatch in 1974, and it gives no counts.

Fuel pellet
I'm sure most everyone has seen the plastic simulated fuel pellets that were give aways at nuke plant info centers to help visitors visualize the energy concentration of reactors. Believe it or not, there was a time when it wasn't unheard of for real uranium to be given away. No, they didn't give re...

Re: Cs 137 in the wild
Steven, To make sure that it wasn't K40, I put a K40 source in the same configuration and its peak came in with better resolution and where it should, slightly lower in energy. I also assume that if it is attenuated within the body of my sample that it would not appear to broaden to a higher energy....
