Re: Old Picker Nuclear Probe Wiring

I think I've seen 5V, 9V and 12V on different systems. Thanks, to be honest I haven't had a chance to play around with it since the original post. I'm a bit scared to try wiring it up as I really don't want to fry anything, so if I do try it, I might start with the lower end of those voltages and s...

Re: Old Picker Nuclear Probe Wiring

Oh, I didn't know that was a thing! That would make sense, would you have any idea what kind of voltage needs to be applied to operate typical pre-amps? I'm pretty ignorant on that stuff so I'm just trying to figure out a ballpark estimate. I do still have the old machine that it was most likely con...

Old Picker Nuclear Probe Wiring

Hello hello! There is an old Picker nuclear scintillator probe that's been laying around in our lab for a while now but it has some weird connectors that I'm not sure what to do with. I've already tried to find documentation on it but it has little to no identifying markings and all the picker stuff...

Re: Help with Th-232 Spectrum

Thank you everyone, all very useful information. Rob, I'll spend some time with that spreadsheet. I'm not quite sure how it will apply to my calibration process just yet but it looks like it has some pretty in depth stuff. ColoRad-o, I suspected that it was temperature dependent! Good paper for sure...

Re: Help a newbie out?

You've got me sold on InterSpec, this is really cool. I'll have to play around with it a bit longer but here is a spectrum from my thoriated lens! I really like the nuclide lookup feature, that is handy!

Re: Help with Th-232 Spectrum

The degree of linearity can depend on the bias voltage (in my experience). My workflow generally is to calibrate with 3 sources (Co60, Cs137, Ba133), sometimes with a thorium lantern mantle for the 2614 peak. I have used PRA polynomial interpolation many times, but these days often fit to a cubic w...

Help with Th-232 Spectrum

I am attempting to use this spectrum to create a detailed energy calibration but I'm running into a number of issues. I was hoping someone with a bit more experience could help me interpret this. This is a Th-232 spectrum I just collected from a vintage thoriated camera lens. I feel pretty confident...

Help a newbie out?

Hello everyone! I'm just collecting my first spectrums in quite a while. The last time I did this was in college and we had to do everything manually (including using a physical book of radionuclides and energy peaks to identify stuff). So, with this new world of technology, surely there are better ...

Re: In-Vivo Dosimetry Concepts

how about just measuring temperature change in a tissue equivalent ccl of water or a small scintillation crystal with fiber optic link to a detector. ? I'm not sure about the water. In theory it would be good, but in practice I think the patient's natural body temperature would heat it up orders of...

In-Vivo Dosimetry Concepts

In the context of radiation oncology, there are a number of treatment techniques that are frequently accompanied with some form of in-vivo dosimetry method to verify dose delivered after the first fraction in case modifications to the treatment need to be made. Unfortunately, one of the biggest go t...
