Re: Spectrum Distortion
Could be a lot of things. The most obvious thing with a spectrum pushed far left is needing more amplifier gain. Depending on the detector used, it may also be that an increase in bias voltage might help? I'm sure there's plenty of other things to try - but perhaps it would help to provide more deta...

Re: Help in finding a specific Japanese CZT detector
Well identified, Ben. Not one I've seen before. Looks like an interesting device, although with a crystal that's only 10x10x1mm, I imagine it's quite insensitive. We have some Kromek GR1s that have 10x the volume of CZT (1x1x1cm), and struggle with their efficiency, particularly for higher energies ...

Re: Problems calibrating between 1500-2600 keV
Just addressing the initial question rather than any of the follow up discussion for now, but I see a few separate questions in there: both sources for that range , and piecewise calibration - and for both questions, it depends whether you're just doing energy calibration or whether you're trying to...

Re: Loss of a good resource.
I've been using the nudat3 as a (poor) replacement, but it misses the reverse search by energy. That was very useful as you often come across an unknown peak and it would help narrow it down to candidates. I have not found a replacement for that. If you do know of one, please post it here. Nudat3's...

Re: Do you keep your equipment warmed up?
As someone that works on HPGe most of the time, my immediate reaction to the question quite a bit different (long term storage of HPGe warmed up can gradually degrade things) :p But yes, we generally keep detectors cooled and all often-used electronics are kept on and warm. However, when I do break ...

Re: detetor to driver cable
In terms of the actual cable, RG-58 or RG-59 coaxial cable are the most commonly used, although they're not the only options. In terms of connectors, you'll want whatever matches your equipment - there's a bunch of different common connectors for different types of detectors. For high-voltage, that ...

Re: Cs-137 in Europe
I'm aware of a few options: Spectrum Techniques - USA, but they do export to UK and Europe, and for exempt quantities have been known to sell to individuals. Probably the best bet. E&Z - Germany. Not known to sell to private individuals, but have been known to sell to very small (potentially sol...

Re: I need help with broken HPGe Princeton gamma detector
I've seen spectra like this from a couple of failed detectors - seems to often be the way the spectrum goes when there's something really wrong. Vacuum failure, crystal warming and HV bias shutdown or preamp electronics issues would be my first inclinations. I'd try a few simple diagnostics, but wit...

Re: Questions about extremely low frequency photons
Interesting questions. I don't know enough about that end of the EM spectrum to give definitive answers to this. This is more the domain of electronics engineers, telecoms engineers, and radio astronomers. Submarine communications is the lowest frequency application of EM radiation I'm aware of, and...

That photo may be the Selectra which has the Intelligent Probe connector - a 7-way Fischer socket which is flush rather than poking out like BNC. That connector gives data lines to the probe and allows it to automatically select HV and dose response factors for the intelligent probes. The Electra ho...
