Leadhenge

I built this little room with floor and two walls of lead ingots. It is open to the sky in north/south orientation. The idea was to place a detector inside this room to see if it would observe solar transit.

Data acquisition started at 5:00 MST - an hour and a half before sunrise.

The Naval Observatory site says noon transit for this day at my location is at 12:18pm, which should be around second number 26,280.

The black line is a 10 moving average.

I see nothing!

Nice try, but null result, and even if you did get a result one would have to have a comparison temperature recording, because the PMT efficiency is affected by changes in the temperature. I have tries similar experiments with neutron counting, but the results have always been pretty random. It seems the world around us is decaying at a pretty uniform rate, which is fortunate, because I happen to think time is a function of a continuously falling potential.

I'm glad I didn't wager anything on my common sense that told me I would see a pronounced bump around noon!

And yes, It appears that after about 7:30 the count drifts downward and that could be the result of the sun shining on my shed - I mean lab - and warming up its contents.

"time is a function of a continuously falling potential." - that doesn't sound like common sense, so there is a good chance of it being correct. 8-) I kind of like the idea.
