Mirion PDS 100G, Spectrometric Personal Radiation Detector
Re: Mirion PDS 100G, Spectrometric Personal Radiation Detector
Happy new owner of this device. Required adjusting calibration as well.
A quick check with Cs137 reference after recalibration:

Re: Mirion PDS 100G, Spectrometric Personal Radiation Detector
Thanks Tom and also thanks to Janni for prompt support with software :)
BTW, Bluetooth communication with the device seems quite unstable, the connection in application seems to break often and I have to re-initiate it. Though the BT device is still paired.
I'm wondering if it's possible to obtain a newer version of the software or device firmware...

I also have had issues with BT. The connection seems to come and go with a mind of its own. Sometimes it works well and other times it does not even want to connect. I have not figured out what is causing the problem.
I think Taray should also be joining the owners group shortly... :)

Hi Tom
Yes I am in...PDS Club..
Ensure yr battery is adequately charged for Bluetooth connectivity.
It seems to me windows 32 bit is preferable to 64 bit system for Bluetooth .I notice this if using Win8.Dunno about other windows?
For me it is still a learning curve assuming everything is intact .

Re: Mirion PDS 100G, Spectrometric Personal Radiation Detector
Welcome Taray!
I recall a previous post about BT being one of the first things to drop with a low battery, so I always make sure the PDS is fully charged or close to it when connecting to the laptop, which is running Win10-Pro 64bit.

Yup, my battery was also fully charged when the BT problems appeared. The application is just pretty outdated and has several other issues.

Re: Mirion PDS 100G, Spectrometric Personal Radiation Detector
Hi guys
My Pds experience
Looks used with no scratches.
Shipped with battery inside
Battery charging working well
Problem is the Pdsmass software
Pds 100g allows short acquisition pause and saving but of no use.
Pdsmass only display spectrum with full acquisition time of 300 sec of more
If one does a 35 sec spectrum it won’t register on Pdsmass.
This gamma acquisition of 300 sec may be too long if one is on the move. The sample source may be moving away or something.
Calibration was incorrect when first tested
Recalibrated with the formula provided
Gain control is changed by the cursor
It appears to me I cannot put another decimal using keyboard.
Eg it must :.2.20 2.30 by cursor
Not adding by keyboard 2.23 or 2.24
I am not 100 percent sure of this ..
Must save by pressing write
Read may not work
The calibration settings changes are incorporated into the Pds
So you can scan spectrum on another pc .
The previous spectrum file has to be deleted coz it contains old calibration.
Bluetooth tends to go off after a few minutes .Maybe due to buggy software or increased memory usage .
Close proximity with battery compartment maybe causing some Bluetooth heating issues .,???
Below are my pics for cs137 and Thorium
Calibration done just one 662 Cs peak.
Thorium peak 609 is misplaced slightly
Later on I may try with another lower 59 Am peak for some linearity hopefully.
Those of you interested in buying seller price is £599 from Bptmedical Uk eBay.
If you offer £400 or more he will counter offer at £499
Regards

Oops
Just realize my mistake
There is no 609 thorium peak
Need to take another look ..

Re: Mirion PDS 100G, Spectrometric Personal Radiation Detector
I didn't have any issues setting a custom Gain value for calibration, I used 1.75 and it was accepted. If you use mouse to change it via the up/down controls, it will change by +/- 0.10, but manually you can enter any number.
I don't think you would get any reasonable spectrum after 35 seconds with any similar device unless the dose rate would be very high (which on the other hand would saturate the detector).
As for BT, I think this is a problem of the software application rather than BT protocol. For me the communication is constantly interrupted, but the device remains paired in Windows.
