Hello,
I am Vít Ladányi, I am from Czech Republic, I live in Třinec, but I study in Brno and I am interested in various sciences, mainly in chemistry (I study physical chemistry), botany, geology (mainly mineralogy) and others. I became very interested in nuclear chemistry, ionizing radiation and its detection. As a chemist I am dealing with chemical actinometry (chemical actinometer is a compound through which we are able to detect number of incident photons (UV-vis-NIR radiation) to any photoactive compound). I am also interested in preparation of new complexes mainly with lanthanides, uranium and thorium. I like to collect uranium minerals, especially secondary uranium minerals such as "uranium micas" and "gummite". I am also interested in radon problematics and its measurement in soil air and in buildings.
Sincerely,
Vit

Re: Vit from Czech Republic
Hello Vit,
Welcome to the forum, it is always nice to have people with a broad interest in science so we look forward to your contributions.
Must admit I had never heard of Gummite, so I had to look it up. Is it something which exists only in your region of the world?
Steven

Re: Vit from Czech Republic
Hello Steven,
Gummite is a mixture of uraninite and various secondary uranium minerals, which is not or is hardly distinguishable macroscopically. I think that Gummite is fairly widespread over the world, mainly on my favorite locations Zálesí, Bílá Voda and Horní Hoštice near Javorník (in Silesia in Czech Republic) and also in Jáchymov (Joachimsthal, Czech Rep.). Gummite from Zálesí contains mainly Fourmarierite http://www.mindat.org/min-1587.html and Wölsendorfite http://www.mindat.org/min-4308.html.
