Willem Glasz, Chemist

Hi
My name is Willem Glasz, 71 Age, and I live in Roetgen, Germany near the Belgian border.
I graduated in organic chemistry (Leiden University- NL, 1968) with main topics in photochemistry and quantum chemistry.
So, radiation in all its aspects is not such a strange matter for me.
Then 34 years professional activity in industrial chemical research: analytical chemistry, instrumentation, industrial catalysis, fine chemicals, diversification studies.
In earlier years I practized electronics (HiFi) as a hobby, but now will pick up practical electronics again.
Since a few months I gained more interest in measurement of (ionisation) radiation, while refreshing my old knowledge in physics.
Visiting several websites to gain more insights in the fascinating world of gammaspectroscopy.
I saw that professional equipment e.g. FLIR Identifinders are very expensive and go beyond my budget.
So, Steven's gammaspectacular website draw my special attention, being very practical and instructive, but mostly nice in price.
I had practically to start from "zero equipment" on, but fortunately I met on eBay a fellow who sold me a lot of his equipment: several NaI scintillators (Bicron 3M3/3P, Canberra 802-3,Photonis XP 2072), Ritec SPD310 (Cd-Zn-Te) , GM Vacutec , Geiger counter Nuovo Elettronics KM 1710, measuring equipment, software. Besides, a lot of practical advise.
Some equipment I ordered from Steve: I hope to get on stream soon with a GS-1102-PRO.
Indeed, I have a lot of work to do now, setting up my equipment and startup of measurements.
I hope that future forum discussions will help me further too.

See you later,

Willem

Willem,

Thanks for the introduction and welcome to the forum, with your background in chemistry and general interest in science and electronics you inevitably had to end up here. I hope you will do some interesting science with your new GS-PRO and look forward to see you sharing it with the group.

Steven
