Call for interesting and unusual spectra.
Hi All,
I would like to continue updating my database of spectra on the main web site. These pages attract a lot of googlers, and I guess serve as a source of good information.
http://www.gammaspectacular.com/gamma_spectra
What I am looking for are good sharp calibrated spectra with a description of what isotopes we are seeing and if possible some information about the source and specific decay process. I also need your permission to repost it on my page, obviously with a credit to the contributor.
Have something interesting, then just add it in a reply to this post or PM me if you prefer.
Thanks..
Steven

Hi Steven,
If I remember well I posted some Am-241 about 2 years ago measured with CsI(Tl) is that something you are looking for?

Hi,
if you want I have a spectrum from lanthanum 138 (NaI 63x63mm) from 100g of lanthanum oxide

Lodovico,
Yes any isotopes not yet listed or better spectra of those already listed .
Some of your old post from the old forum might have disappeared, because I upgraded the web site and lost the old forum.
Still have the database but no front end page.

Re: Call for interesting and unusual spectra.
Hallo Steven,
the spectra of radium and uranium are very similar.
Radium Source > Pocket Watch
Uran Source > Mineral Torbernit Cu[UO2|PO4]2·12H2O
At the moment I am still waiting for a better sound card,
then I want to optimize the energy calibration and add comments.
DIY Probe:
PMT Hamamatsu 10133
NAI Crystal 63x63mm
Driver:
GS 1100A
Software:
PRA Software 16.0.1.2 10.000.000 Counts ---> Export
GNUPLOT
Greetings Gerd

Re: Call for interesting and unusual spectra.
I'm not currently setup for any usable gamma spectroscopy right now, but I will be in the very near future.
I have one interesting thing I'd like to take a gamma spectrum of. It's a 1-pound ingot of mischmetal. I've had that for a very long time (going on 20 years now) as a curiosity. In case you don't know, mischmetal is a raw mixture of lanthanides as they are extracted from various sources, primarily monazite. It usually has around 50% cerium, 30% lanthanum and the rest is a mix of all of the other lanthanides. Supposedly most of the thorium and radium are removed before the concentrate is reduced to metal, but I'm sure there should be enough of either and their daughters left to be discernible. I'm very curious what other isotopes, if any, can be identified in this sample.

Hello Gerd,
I think there is a small difference between UO2 and Ra 226. Peter

Very interesting. I'm sure I did not mix up the mineral and the pocket watch.
I'll take another look at that when the new sound card is set.
Thanks for the information.

Nice one,
Thanks for bringing this one back.
Fast neutron activation, 2.5 hour half life, no time to wasted getting this spectrum :)
