Luuk - Thanks for sharing. Really nice separation on the Fukushima soil Cs-134/Cs-137, wish I could afford one. Too bad they are so hygroscopic. By the time most of those crystals get into the secondary market, they will probably be shot (unless they are in Scionix built detectors that is...). Cheers, Tom

Same here, really appreciate you sharing the latest advancements in technology with your well prepared reports.
Wish I had one for neutron detection, I have some Li6 Eu but the resolution for neutrons is not very good.

Hi Steven,
Most Lil(Eu) do not gif a good nice sharp peak look more like a blob , most important thing is that the gee of the neutrons are above min. 2.8 better >3.0 MeV.
So they are easy to separate with a simple window from all natural isotopes.

Hi Luuk,
Thanks for clarifying that, I thought my LiI(Eu) detector was faulty, because I really couldn't identify a peak.
But now that makes sense, I can just do a test with Co60 or Thorium and set the discriminator above these counts. The number of background counts above this (without neutrons) is insignificant.

Thanks for the information on the LiI(Eu), so today I did a Cs 137 spectrum for comparison with my detector, and the resolution is around 8.6% although it is a very small crystal so the efficiency is low.
After using the advanced filter to discriminate pulses below 2500 kV I ended up with, 21 counts in 1884 seconds or 0.6 cpm background.
If I get time over the weekend I will start up my neutron generator, and try to get some neutrons.
